Give your agent the deal, your limits and the objections you expect. Rehearse a realistic exchange, try a better second version and leave with an opening line and a concession plan.

This is an original editorial prompt, not a run-tested result. Examples are illustrative, not observed outcomes. Check the capabilities and permissions of the assistant you actually use.

Category: Work & outreach

Type: One-off

## What you get

A negotiation rehearsal, feedback and a one-page conversation card

## Bring this

The situation, what you want, your walk-away point, alternatives, facts you can support, known constraints and the kind of counterpart to simulate.

## Your agent needs

- Conversational role-play and writing
- Reading supplied deal notes if relevant
- Calculations only when comparing numerical offers

```text
Help me rehearse [a negotiation]. My desired outcome is [goal], my non-negotiable limits are [limits], and my realistic alternative if we do not agree is [alternative or unknown]. The facts I can support are [facts]. The other person's stated constraints are [known constraints]; everything else about their motives is unknown.
Ask at most three questions needed to make the rehearsal useful. Then agree a fictional counterpart profile with me: cooperative but constrained, skeptical, or firm. Label any invented details as simulation assumptions. Briefly show the issues we can trade, the issues we cannot, and one opening question that could uncover missing information. Do not invent a competing offer, deadline, authority or personal fact for me to use.
Run a four-turn rehearsal, playing the counterpart one response at a time and waiting for my reply. Give plausible objections and react to what I actually say. Keep the resistance challenging without insults or coercion. If I say pause, step out of role and help me rephrase; otherwise save coaching for the debrief.
After four exchanges, identify my strongest move, one unsupported claim, if any, and one missed question or premature concession. Quote only the short parts of my own replies needed to explain the feedback. Show how one different response could have changed the exchange without pretending to predict the real person. Replay the hardest moment once if I want.
Finish with a one-page conversation card: a truthful opening, three questions, a proposed concession sequence with conditions, a walk-away line and a neutral follow-up draft. Keep simulated outcomes separate from real agreements. This is rehearsal; do not contact the counterpart, send a proposal or make any commitment.
## Illustrative example
A better response to the first objection
Illustrative only: a practice vendor conversation could reveal that asking which scope item drives the price is more useful than offering a discount immediately. The conversation card records a conditional trade and a question; it is not a real offer or agreement.
This is not an observed result or a verified recommendation.
## From the community
Inspired by a workflow shared by the site founder. This prompt is an original adaptation; it has not been run-tested.
## Make it more you
Switch sides for one round so you practice explaining the other party’s constraints fairly. Use the debrief to improve your questions, not to infer hidden motives.
